Jonas Vingegaard Suffers Broken Collarbone and Ribs in Cycling Accident

During the fourth stage of the Tour of the Basque Country in Spain, Jonas Vingegaard, a two-time Tour de France winner, suffered a serious injury in a crash. The Danish cyclist broke his collarbone and several ribs during a descent on the Olaeta climb, just 35 kilometres from the finish line.

The incident occurred when several riders slid straight on at a right-hand bend in the front of the peloton, causing a severe impact. Vingegaard’s team, Visma | Lease a Bike, described the crash as resulting from this unfortunate event. Both Primož Roglič of Slovenia and Remco Evenepoel of Belgium were also involved in the crash.

Roglič was forced to withdraw from the tour due to his injuries, while Evenepoel headed to a hospital for further examinations. Despite this unfortunate incident, Roglič managed to give a thumbs-up to a broadcast camera as he rode away in a car.

Visma | Lease a Bike expressed their concern for Vingegaard’s health and well-being. They stated that he is receiving medical treatment and will be closely monitored before returning to racing.
