Bridging the Gap: Mount Saint Mary College and Bishop Dunn Memorial School Engage in Science Adventures for Kids

Students from Bishop Dunn school experience hands-on science experiments led by older students

Bishop Dunn Memorial School in Newburgh recently hosted an event where young scholars had the opportunity to engage in hands-on science experiments led by Mount Saint Mary College students. The college students, under the guidance of Jodie Fahey, an associate professor of Chemistry at the Mount, mentored the children in small projects that explored various scientific concepts.

The Mount has a long-standing commitment to holistic development for children from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Founded in 1883, the school focuses on academic, spiritual, emotional, social, and physical growth. The event was one example of how the Mount is working to provide students with practical experience and real-world applications of science principles.

One of the highlights of the event was a density experiment conducted by Mount Saint Mary College student Ashley Leonor from New Windsor, N.Y. The experiment captivated the Bishop Dunn Memorial School students and demonstrated how fun and exciting science can be.

The Mount maintains a strong partnership with Bishop Dunn Memorial School through its education program, with many Mount graduates going on to work at Bishop Dunn and further strengthening the bond between the two educational institutions. Principal Nancy Benfer is a Mount alumna from the class of 2004 and continues to advocate for collaboration between the two schools.
