British Military Commander: Ukraine Faces Tough Period but Long-Term Trends Favorable in Battle against Russia

British commander announces plans for increased raids into Russian territory by Ukraine

As a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, the country is facing a tough period, according to British military commander Admiral Tony Radakin. Despite this, there are more favorable long-term trends for Ukraine, he noted on April 25. Radakin mentioned that Ukraine has received new military aid packages from the US and Europe, including high-tech long-range weapons. This has enabled them to conduct successful long-range raid campaigns deep into Russian territory.

To regain the initiative on the battlefield, Ukraine has been requesting long-range weapons from the West. They have been conducting raids on production and energy infrastructure deep within Russian territory, including oil refineries. In March, the US secretly transferred ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 km to Ukraine. President Joe Biden expressed concerns about using these missiles to attack Russian territory.

Despite disagreements between Ukraine and the US over raiding Russian oil refineries, Radakin expressed confidence in Ukraine’s raid campaign capabilities. He highlighted the impact of Ukraine’s long-range strike capability on organizing deep penetration operations. The British Prime Minister pledged over 3.7 billion USD in aid to Ukraine and signed contracts with defense companies to provide weapons, including anti-aircraft missiles and cruise missiles.

Admiral Radakin remains optimistic about NATO members increasing spending and providing support to Ukraine. He acknowledged that Russia could launch more effective long-range raids on Ukraine but emphasized the importance of aid to prevent their failure. The military strategy of Ukraine will be kept confidential to maintain its effectiveness.

In recent years, the UK has played a critical role in supporting Ukrainian forces through military aid packages and intelligence sharing agreements with NATO allies like Germany and France.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since 2014 when pro-Russian separatists rebelled against Ukrainian government control in eastern regions of the country. Since then, there have been numerous skirmishes between Ukrainian troops and Russian proxies in eastern regions such as Donetsk and Luhansk.

The conflict has also led to significant humanitarian crises as millions of people have fled their homes due to fighting in eastern regions.

Despite these challenges, Admiral Radakin expressed hope that there would be an end to the conflict soon and that peace would be restored in Eastern Europe.
