Canada triumphs over USA to secure gold at U18 World Hockey Championship

The under-18 men’s world hockey championship concluded on Sunday, with Canada securing their fifth gold medal. The Canadians overcame an early deficit to defeat the United States 6-4, thanks to a hat trick by Gavin McKenna and assists from Cole Beaudoin, Tij Iginla, and Ryder Ritchie. Goalie Carter George made 31 saves to secure the victory.

The United States put up a strong fight, with Cole Hutson, Christian Humphreys, Cole Eiserman, and Brodie Ziemer each scoring for the Americans. Nicholas Kempf made 19 saves in net for the United States.

In the bronze medal game, Sweden blanked Slovakia 4-0. Love Harenstam stopped all 36 shots he faced, while Lucas Pettersson scored the game-winning goal in the third period. Melvin Fernstrom, Alfons Freij, and Victor Eklund also contributed to Sweden’s lead. Alan Lendak made 25 saves for Slovakia.

Overall, it was a thrilling conclusion to the tournament that saw Canada emerge victorious and Sweden secure bronze.
