Canutillo ISD Looks Forward to Improving Educational Opportunities with $386 Million in Funds, Despite Concerns about Property Tax Increases

Canutillo Independent School District secures $386 million for upgrades to schools and technology

Canutillo ISD is ecstatic about the recent approval of $386 million in funds for the district. The state-of-the-art facilities, repairs to school buildings, upgrades to HVAC systems, and improved safety and security measures for students are just a few of the changes that the district is looking forward to implementing.

The passage of two proposals – Proposition A for $379 million for school repairs, security upgrades, and career training, and Proposition B for $7.2 million for technology infrastructure – were met with mixed feelings within the community. While some residents expressed concerns about the increase in property taxes that will be used to raise the funds, others were excited about the improvements that would come to their children’s schools.

Despite these concerns, Matt Stopana, a resident of Canutillo, expressed his support for the education of children while acknowledging the challenges of continuous property tax increases. He lamented never truly owning his home due to ongoing payments. However, he remained optimistic about the future of education in Canutillo with leaders focused on utilizing the funds to improve opportunities for students.
