In response to the controversy surrounding Minister of Economy Luis Caputo’s statement that prepaid medicine companies are targeting the middle class with price increases, the government has issued a warning against cartelization in the sector. Presidential spokesman Manuel Adorni emphasized that while the government promotes deregulation and freedom, they will not tolerate behavior that harms citizens.
Caputo, who previously called for supermarket price reductions, criticized prepaid companies for raising prices after deregulation. This is the second time in a short span that he has done so. President Javier Milei also expressed concerns about the increases, stating that the government is working to address the issue without resorting to force.
The ongoing dispute over prepaid prices has led to four consecutive double-digit increases this month, with private medicine prices rising by more than 100% since the beginning of the year. The anger from Caputo and questions from Casa Rosada highlight these significant price hikes and their impact on Argentines. Additionally, there have been price hikes in other sectors such as gas and water services.
