Banamex to retain 22 million clients as Citi acquires 2 thousand in seamless transition

As part of the sale of the Mexican bank, Banamex will retain 22 million clients while Citi will have 2 thousand clients. The transition is expected to be smooth and clients will not notice any changes in terms, conditions, benefits, or offers during this process. Manuel Romo, the general director of Citibanamex, emphasized the importance of seizing opportunities in the current global context and expressed a positive outlook for Mexico’s economic growth.

In an interview before the 87th Banking Convention in Acapulco, Romo discussed the upcoming separation between Citibanamex and Citi. He also highlighted the opportunities for Mexico in terms of nearshoring and the importance of infrastructure development and security. Romo praised Mexico’s strong institutional foundations and emphasized the need to continue building on them.

Romo mentioned that he had spoken with Claudia Sheinbaum, Morena’s candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, about their decision not to attend their meeting of regional councilors. However, he emphasized that this decision did not affect their relationship or impact his views on her candidacy. He also discussed the challenges that the next administration will face and expressed a willingness to support and collaborate with the government to address Mexico’s needs. He mentioned that he would be open to dialogue with Sheinbaum and stressed the importance of maintaining open communication and partnerships for Mexico’s future progress.
