Colombia Puts Forward Genocide Allegations Against Israel in Gaza Strip at International Court of Justice

Colombia seeks to participate in Gaza genocide case against Israel at the World Court

Colombia has submitted an application to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) requesting intervention in the case brought by South Africa against Israel for alleged genocide in the Gaza Strip. The court has the authority to allow states to present their views and protect the safety and existence of the Palestinian people, as requested by Colombia.

While other states have expressed interest in intervening in this case, only Colombia and Nicaragua have formally requested to do so. Last week, ICJ judges instructed Israel to ensure that basic food supplies reach Palestinians in Gaza without delay. In January, the court ordered Israel to refrain from any genocidal acts against Palestinians and prevent such acts by its troops.

Israel maintains that it is targeting Hamas militants and not civilians, rejecting South Africa’s case as an abuse of the genocide convention. Israel’s lawyers have dismissed the accusations and argued for their position in court.
