Colombian President Gustavo Petro Slams Israel for Gaza Strip Violence, Accuses Netanyahu of Genocide

Petro addresses Israel, calling Netanyahu’s actions a “genocide”

In response to Israel’s criticism of his decision to break diplomatic ties with Israel, Colombian President Gustavo Petro defended his stance by accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of committing genocide. Petro announced the severing of relations following the Israeli Army’s offensive against the Gaza Strip, which resulted in numerous Palestinian casualties despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire during Ramadan.

Petro had previously proposed a peace commission to facilitate talks between Israel and Palestinian militias, but the escalation of violence resulted in deaths and hostages. Despite facing criticism from Israel, Petro remains committed to seeking peaceful resolutions and condemning acts of violence and genocide. He believes that dialogue and understanding are key to ending the conflict in the region.
