Columbia City Council Proposes Removal of Railroad along Business Loop

At their meeting, the Columbia City Council discussed an agreement with the Missouri Department of Transportation to remove the railroad crossing over Business Loop 70 East. The agreement outlines responsibilities for both MoDOT and the city in the removal process. The city’s railway staff will handle removing the rails, crossing surface, support structures, and hardware, while MoDOT will repair and maintain the roadway.

The city has been responsible for maintaining the railroad near the power plant, even though it has not been in use since the plant no longer operates on coal.
