Columbia Fire Department Releases Information About Overnight Structure Fire

One Columbia firefighter was hospitalized after battling an overnight structure fire in the 1600 block of East Business Loop 70. According to a news release from the Columbia Fire Department, the fire was reported around 2:13 a.m. Friday, with firefighters quickly responding to find a construction trailer fully engulfed in flames. They were able to bring the fire under control within eight minutes of arriving on the scene. Aside from the firefighter who was taken to the hospital, no other injuries were reported.

Columbia Fire Marshals are currently conducting an origin and cause investigation to determine how the fire started. Nine Columbia Fire Units and a total of 18 personnel responded to the scene to extinguish the fire and ensure the safety of the area. The road between Paris Road and Edison Street was closed by 2:29 a.m., as reported by Boone County Joint Communications. However, no reopening time for this road was specified in their release.

The incident serves as a reminder that even seemingly small fires can be deadly if not handled properly, highlighting the importance of proper training and equipment for all first responders involved in such situations.
