In an interview, Giuseppe Conte, the president of the 5 Star Movement, voiced his support for Elly Schlein’s call to free the Democratic Party from ‘bosses’ and ‘caciques’. He emphasized that he would be a valuable ally in this endeavor.
Conte also addressed the primaries in Bari, stressing the need for a transparent and fair process. He acknowledged that he had given Schlein time to consider her proposal before the primaries but did not receive any response.
Regarding the withdrawal of Laforgia from the primaries, Conte stated that they would respect his decision if he chose to step back. However, he emphasized that the M5s were committed to a rational and linear political path and there was no reason to deviate from it.
Looking ahead, Conte mentioned that they would now focus on the upcoming regional elections in Puglia. He hinted at potential changes within the party, suggesting they would be more ambitious in their approach. While he did not disclose any specific plans regarding the withdrawal of councilors, Conte stated that they were prepared for a significant shift in their strategy.
