Detroit Health Department Hosts Free Health Screenings during National Public Health Week: A Celebration of Culture in Health

Attend free health screenings during Detroit’s Public Health Week

During Public Health Week in Detroit, residents will have the chance to receive free health screenings. Hosted by the Detroit Health Department, the event will run from April 1 through April 6. There is no need for an appointment, ID, or health insurance to participate in the screenings.

The Detroit Health Department has teamed up with Detroit police precincts, recreation centers, and other community partners to host this year’s event. The theme of this year’s Public Health Week is “Centering and Celebrating Culture in Health,” which highlights the importance of cultural influence on health.

Residents can take advantage of free health screenings and participate in activities promoting a healthy lifestyle. The screenings include checks for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, kidney function, HIV, and syphilis testing. Additionally, there will be fitness classes, CPR training, Narcan training and kit distribution, mental health screenings, lead screenings, and a men’s panel discussion called Cuts and Conversations.

The events will be held at various locations throughout Detroit on specific dates and times listed on the flyer for 2024. More information about Public Health Week in Detroit can be found on the city’s official website at detroitmi.gov/health.
