The First District Health Unit in Minot is hosting an open house on Monday to showcase the wide range of programs and services it offers to the community and surrounding areas. Executive Director Holly Brekhus emphasized the importance of informing the public about these offerings, beyond just COVID-related services. This event is taking place during National Public Health Week, which began on April 1st, with the American Public Health Association organizing events nationwide to highlight the critical role that public health officials play in promoting health and wellness.

The First District Health Unit provides a variety of services, including emergency preparedness and response, school health, family planning, sexually transmitted diseases, general nursing, and injury prevention. Additionally, the Environmental Health Division is housed at the unit, offering training and guidance on topics such as food safety, rabies, and hazardous waste. The division conducts inspections and enforcement at various locations such as food establishments, parks, campgrounds, and swimming pools.
