Dundee Graduates Excel in NCAA Wrestling, College Softball and High School Soccer: A Weekend Recap

Swiderski and Davis Triumph at NCAA Championships

In the realm of sports, there were several successful outings over the weekend by graduates from Dundee. At the NCAA Wrestling Championships, Casey Swiderski of Iowa State earned All-American status at 149 pounds, finishing seventh, while Braeden Davis of Penn State contributed to their national championship win. Penn State dominated the tournament with 155.5 points, more than doubling the total for runner-up Michigan. Iowa State placed fifth with 64.5 points.

Swiderski began his journey strong by winning his first two matches with scores of 2-1 and 8-5. However, he lost in the quarterfinals to top-seed Ridge Lovett of Nebraska before bouncing back to win his next match. He finished his weekend with a decisive victory in the seventh-place match. On the other hand, Davis just missed becoming an All-American, bowing out in the blood round at 125 pounds after winning his first two matches.

In college softball action, Monroe graduate Ellie Sieler and her Michigan teammates swept a three-game series against Whiteford graduate Ally VanBrandt and Indiana. Sieler had a productive series, going 4-for-10 with four RBIs and three runs scored, including a home run and a double in the first game. VanBrandt was among the top hitters for Indiana, going 3-for-10 with a run scored and an RBI.

In high school soccer, Flat Rock secured a 1-0 victory over Wyandotte Roosevelt with Isabella Thomas scoring the lone goal off an assist from Megan Woelkers. Keola Botts recorded the shutout for Flat Rock. Meanwhile, Bedford’s freshman baseball team kicked off their season with a comeback win against Toledo St. John. Jason Bryant and Brady Boisselle each had two hits while Landon Sparks and Evan Bullard pitched well to secure the 12-4 victory.
