E.coli Poisoning: How 560 People in Long Khanh City Fell Ill After Consuming Bread from a Local Bakery

More than 560 people poisoned from eating bread in Vietnam

In Long Khanh City, a total of 560 people were hospitalized due to poisoning after consuming bread from a specific store in Xuan Binh ward on April 30. Of these, more than 200 have been discharged from the hospital and 119 cases are being monitored at home, with only a few mild cases going to the hospital for monitoring. The investigation into the poisoning has been transferred to the police, and if no criminal liability is found, the city will handle administrative violations accordingly.

The most severe case involves a 6-year-old boy in a coma at Children’s Hospital 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, while another child shows signs of improvement. The symptoms of E.coli poisoning include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. The shop owner reported selling 1,100 loaves of bread that day, leading to numerous cases of poisoning. The shop has stopped operating and samples of food from the bakery have been collected for testing.
