Easter Celebrations Across America: Retailer and Financial Institution Closures, Postal and Delivery Services Affected

What is available and closed this Easter Day in 2024?

This year, Easter Sunday will fall on March 31. It is a time for Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. Additionally, it marks the end of the 40-day penance period, Lent. Good Friday commemorates the day that Jesus died on the cross and is celebrated on the Friday before Easter.

Despite not being a federal holiday, Easter is a popular celebration among Americans. Consumer spending is expected to reach $22.4 billion this year. Many businesses will be closed on Easter Sunday for last-minute errands as people celebrate the holiday.

Several large retailers such as Target, Macy’s, Best Buy, Costco and Sam’s Club have announced that they will be closed on Sunday. Some Kroger stores and grocery stores under its umbrella will also be open but shoppers should confirm with local grocers before heading to the store on Sunday. Walmart, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Sierra and Homesense stores have also declared their closure on Easter Sunday.

Several financial institutions including most banks, markets like New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will also be closed on Easter Sunday. The United States Postal Service won’t be delivering mail and there will be no UPS pickup or delivery service on that day however UPS Store locations may be closed but Express Critical will be available. Most FedEx services won’t be available except for FedEx Office with modified hours and Custom Critical services.
