Easter Travel Report: Ten Million Italians to Hit the Road Despite Uncertainties

Ten million Italians are set to travel for the Easter holidays, according to a report from the Confcommercio Tourism Observatory in collaboration with Swg. Although two million are still undecided due to uncertainties about the weather, most are ready to pack their bags and hit the road. Additionally, eight and a half million Italians are planning trips for the April 25 long weekend. The total expense for these trips is estimated to be around 3.5 billion euros, with an average of 350 euros spent per person.

Italians tend to prefer domestic destinations when traveling for Easter, with 85% of travelers opting for Italian destinations. Recent data shows that many have revised their travel plans to include shorter holidays closer to home. This has led to an increase in the number of people planning to spend only two nights at their destination, with 61% of those interviewed choosing this option.

When it comes to accommodation preferences, 51% of travelers opt for hotels or B&Bs, while 30% take advantage of the Easter holidays to visit second homes or relatives and friends. The most popular destinations within Italy for Easter travel include the seaside with 25% of preferences, followed by cities of art at 21% and mountain destinations at 15%.

Despite concerns about weather and international tensions, Italians remain eager to travel. There is a particular interest in southern regions like Campania, Sicily, and Puglia as well as northern regions like Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, and Tuscany. The president of Confcommercio, Carlo Sangalli believes that tourism will continue to grow in the upcoming months and emphasizes the importance of supporting families’ spending capacity through tax reform.
