EU Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza: A Failed Humanity and the Urgent Need for Peace in the Middle East

The EU High Representative Josep Borrell: Israel’s Right to Defend Itself, Without the Right to Retaliate

At a summit, EU High Representative for External Relations Josep Borrell voiced his disappointment over the situation in Gaza, calling it a failure of humanity rather than just a humanitarian crisis. The leaders of the European Union member states are set to discuss the Middle East situation at their summit, with a draft resolution being considered that calls for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian pause in the conflict.

During the discussions, Guterres emphasized the importance of upholding basic principles such as respecting the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian rights in the chaotic world we live in. He also called for a ceasefire in Gaza, condemning both the terrorist attacks by Hamas in Israel and the civilian casualties in Gaza. Borrell echoed these sentiments, urging Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza and emphasizing the unacceptable conditions faced by the civilian population.

The EU countries have been divided on how strongly Israel’s actions should be condemned, but all parties agree on the urgent need for a peaceful resolution. Discussions at the summit are expected to focus heavily on addressing the crisis in the Middle East and finding a way to restore peace and stability in the region.
