Criticism mounts for von der Leyen over nomination of party colleague Pieper

The European Commission is facing scrutiny over the appointment of Markus Pieper, a German MEP from the CDU (EPP), as the EU envoy for SMEs on January 31. Pieper was appointed with a salary of 17 thousand euros, but concerns have been raised about the impartiality of the selection process. Several commissioners and MEPs have requested a discussion within the College of Commissioners, questioning if Pieper’s political affiliation played a role in his selection. The EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, along with Commissioners Thierry Breton, Paolo Gentiloni, and Nicolas Schmit, sent a letter to von der Leyen asking for a discussion on the appointment as soon as possible. Some MEPs have also raised concerns about the appointment process and have called for the nomination to be canceled and a new procedure to be initiated. Despite von der Leyen expressing confidence that the appointment was made in accordance with all relevant procedures, the debate on the issue is expected to take place in the European Parliament soon.

Cash purchases of homes are also being considered, with questions arising about the benefits and risks associated with such transactions. Car servicing is another important aspect that vehicle owners should prioritize to ensure the longevity and efficiency of their vehicles. Regular car servicing not only saves money in the long run but also helps in maintaining the vehicle in optimal condition. The costs of car servicing can vary, but understanding the importance of regular maintenance can ultimately save money and prolong the life of the vehicle.
