Expanding Healthcare Access in Rural Areas: Nueces County Takes Action

Nueces County Public Health Services in Robstown to open five days a week starting soon.

The Johnny Calderon Building in Robstown has been the only source of healthcare services for residents of the surrounding areas for over a year now. Officials have recognized the need to expand healthcare services to serve those living in rural areas and are working towards making this a reality.

Currently, residents from towns like Bishop or Banquet have to travel long distances to access healthcare services, but the expanded schedule will make it more convenient for them. Xavier Gonzalez, the Nueces County Director of Health and Wellness, stated that increasing access to healthcare in rural areas is a priority. He emphasized that the goal is to provide greater access to healthcare services for those living in rural areas.

The Operation Health and Wellness Program has highlighted the significant need for healthcare services in rural areas, and the county is taking steps to address this need through the expanded Public Health Services. Joe Gonzalez, Nueces County Commissioner Precinct Two, mentioned that the county is finalizing a contract with a vendor to provide these health services. The new schedule for the Public Health Services is set to begin on October 1st. This expansion will ensure that residents in rural areas have increased access to healthcare services throughout the week. The community has expressed a strong need for these services, and officials are working to make healthcare more accessible for all residents.
