Partial solar eclipse activities to be hosted at Tellus Science Museum

On April 8th, mark your calendars and head over to Tellus Science Museum in Cartersville, Georgia to witness the Great American Solar Eclipse of 2024. The museum’s observatory will be open from 12:30 to 4:30 PM (weather permitting) for guests to view the eclipse with a solar telescope. With 84% coverage of the Sun at Tellus, it promises to be a spectacular sight.

Apart from solar viewing, there will be hands-on activities available such as making a solar bead bracelet and creating eclipse chalk art. Guests can also look forward to giveaways of solar viewing glasses and Mini Moon Pies. These giveaways are free for museum guests, limited to one per guest while supplies last. Tellus Astronomy Program Manager, Karisa Zdanky, emphasizes the importance of taking the opportunity to witness this event, as the next solar eclipse with similar coverage in Georgia will not occur until 2045.

The partial eclipse will begin at 1:45 PM, reach maximum at 3:04 PM, and end at 4:21 PM. Tellus Science Museum is a Smithsonian Affiliate and part of Georgia Museums Inc., along with Booth Western Art Museum, Savoy Automobile Museum and Bartow History Museum.
