Exploring the Vital Connection between Mental and Physical Health: How Addressing Anxiety and Depression Can Improve Heart Health Outcomes

Study finds that mental health treatment improves heart disease outcomes

The link between physical and mental health has long been established, particularly in relation to heart health. Mental health issues such as anxiety and depression can contribute to poor sleep, restlessness, hopelessness, inactivity, substance use, and poor diet. These behaviors can either lead to chronic health conditions or worsen existing ones. As a result, addressing mental health is crucial for overall well-being.

Recently, a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association found that individuals with known heart disease who received medication and psychotherapy for anxiety or depression were less likely to be readmitted to the hospital or visit an emergency room. This study and others underscore the importance of treating mental illnesses as a means of improving overall health outcomes.
