The Flemish Parliament will not be holding a hearing with the VRT leadership after N-VA and opposition party Vlaams Belang were absent for an extra session of the Media Committee on Friday. This resulted in no quorum and therefore no vote could be taken on the request for a hearing.
This incident is not the only one in recent weeks and months, with issues ranging from the cancellation of a documentary series about Bart De Pauw to calls for explanations from the VRT leadership, especially CEO Frederik Delaplace. However, attempts to summon the VRT top have not yielded results as N-VA and Vlaams Belang did not show up for the Media Committee session.
Opposition parties Groen and Vooruit are disappointed by this obstruction, with Commission chairman Meyrem Almaci calling it a mockery after a series of problematic issues. Vooruit MP Katia Segers questions N-VA’s motives in stopping the hearing and boycotting parliament’s control function. Despite this disappointment, there will be no hearing due to the absence of key parties.
