Fiber Connection in South of Israel: A New Era for High-Speed Internet and Global Data Transfer

Is cutting underwater cables in the Red Sea the answer to safeguarding our internet from the Houthis?

The optimistic fiber network, an extension of Cellcom’s existing network, connects the border crossings with Jordan from north to south. This network will also allow for the connection of server farms and landing stations at strategic locations along the new fiber route. Residents of the south and Eilat can expect improved connection speeds with the launch of this network.

Cellcom has informed its business partners in the south that they will be upgraded to the new fiber network. The deployed fiber, made of glass known as “Corning,” has the capability to transmit higher rates over longer distances, enabling the transfer of thousands of gigabytes over hundreds of kilometers. This infrastructure will be used by international content and cloud providers, communication operators, and entities interested in enhancing their existing infrastructures.

In response to security threats in the region, Communications Minister Shlomo Karai stated that the deployment of Cellcom’s advanced terrestrial fiber between Eilat and Be’er Sheva is part of the solution. This new fiber network launch is expected to benefit Eilat and the southern region of the country by providing a secure infrastructure that connects the East to the West. Director General of the Ministry of Communications, Einbal Meshash, emphasized that this deployment makes Israel a strategic asset in global data traffic.

The deployment of this advanced terrestrial fiber is expected to provide faster internet speeds for residents living in Eilat and other cities along its path. The new network will enable businesses operating in these areas to take advantage of high-speed internet services for faster data transfer and communication with customers across different parts of Israel.

This new infrastructure will also provide a backup for submarine cable infrastructure, ensuring uninterrupted communication during times when undersea cables are damaged or disrupted due to natural or human-made factors.

Communications Minister Shlomo Karai stated that this deployment is an important step towards enhancing Israel’s position as a global leader in data traffic. He emphasized that this investment will bring numerous benefits not only to Israeli residents but also to international businesses looking for reliable connectivity options.

Director General Einbal Meshash added that this deployment will help boost Israel’s economy by creating more opportunities for businesses operating across different sectors such as technology, finance, and healthcare.
