Finland Reveals 2024 World Championship Squad: Valtteri Puustinen and Jesse Puljujarvi Lead the Way

Valtteri Puustinen and Jesse Puljujarvi selected for Team Finland in IIHF World Championship

Finland has announced the selection of forwards Valtteri Puustinen and Jesse Puljujarvi to represent the country at the 2024 IIHF World Championship, which will be held in Prague and Ostrava, Czechia. Puustinen won silver with Finland at the 2021 World Championship, while Puljujarvi represented Finland at the 2017 event.

Puustinen, 24, had a standout season with Pittsburgh in 2023-2024, playing in 52 games and recording 20 points (5G-15A). He led Penguins rookies in goals, assists, and points and also performed well with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the AHL. Puustinen tallied 13 points in 24 games, including three points in two playoff games.

Puljujarvi joined Pittsburgh on a professional tryout in December 2023 before signing a two-year contract in February 2024. The forward from Alvkarleby, Sweden but raised in Finland played in 22 games with Pittsburgh during the regular season, scoring four points. He also had a productive stint with the WBS Penguins, totaling nine points in 13 games.

The preliminary round schedule for Team Finland’s participation at the World Championship has been released, and broadcast information will be announced later on.
