Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare collaborate on development of new medical facilities

Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare have formed a partnership to develop an academic health center in Tallahassee as well as a medical campus in Panama City Beach. The agreement was announced on Monday, with the signing of a memorandum of understanding.

The memorandum of understanding outlines the creation of a nonprofit corporation that will oversee research and clinical-education decisions. Funding for the academic health center was provided by the Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, with $125 million allocated to Florida State University for construction. The site for the academic health center is currently being cleared on Tallahassee Memorial property, with construction set to begin soon and completion expected by 2026.

In addition to the academic health center, Florida State University is also collaborating with Tallahassee Memorial and The St. Joe Co. to establish a medical campus in Panama City Beach. This facility is anticipated to open later this year as part of the FSU Health initiative.

University President Richard McCullough expressed his excitement for the FSU Health initiative, which aims to transform the healthcare ecosystem in North Florida. He emphasized that this partnership will enable FSU and Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare to work together to provide quality healthcare services and education opportunities for patients, students, and healthcare professionals alike.
