Former Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton surrenders himself after weeks following domestic violence warrant

In a shocking turn of events, former Detroit Lions cornerback Cameron Sutton has been arrested on charges of domestic violence. The 29-year-old turned himself in at a jail in Tampa, Florida, after evading law enforcement for several weeks. Sutton was initially wanted for domestic battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony.

The incident was first reported on March 7 when police were contacted about a domestic incident involving Sutton. Despite being at the team’s training facility, the Lions decided to release him on March 21 after becoming aware of the situation simultaneously with the public. The victim’s identity remains protected and no further details have been disclosed.

Sutton recently signed a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions and was a key player during the 2023 season, recording six pass deflections and one interception. Before joining the Lions, he spent six seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he accumulated eight interceptions and nearly 40 pass breakups in 39 starts. Sutton was set to receive $12.7 million in 2024 and play alongside Carlton Davis at cornerback. However, his future with the team is now uncertain as he awaits trial for these serious charges.
