Former NBA Player Ben McLemore Arrested on Sex Crime Charges in Oregon

Ben McLemore, ex-NBA lottery pick and veteran of five teams, accused of first-degree rape

In 2013, Ben McLemore was selected as the No. 7 overall pick in the NBA Draft by the Kings. However, recently he has been arrested in Oregon on multiple sex crime charges. The charges stem from an alleged sexual assault that took place in Lake Oswego, Oregon on October 3, 2021 while McLemore was a member of the Portland Trail Blazers.

McLemore remained with the Blazers for the entirety of the 2021-22 season before moving overseas to play in China for the Shangdong Hi-Speed Kirin, Greece for AEK Athens, and finally Spain for Rio Breogan. Police say McLemore’s departure from Oregon caused delays in gathering evidence but they continued to collect it while he was away. In February, a grand jury heard evidence in the case and led to McLemore’s indictment and arrest.

Jail logs showed that McLemore had been released as of Wednesday evening after posting bail of $50,000 of a $500,000 bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for July 1 at 10 a.m. PT. McLemore played nine seasons in the NBA after being selected No. 7 overall in 2013 by the Kings. He went on to play for the Grizzlies, Rockets, Lakers, and finally the Blazers. McLemore’s lawyers did not immediately respond to ESPN’s requests for comments regarding this matter
