Former NFL star Terrell Suggs charged with threatening and intimidating in Scottsdale

Terrell Suggs, former NFL linebacker, arrested in Arizona on assault charge

Terrell Suggs, a former NFL linebacker, was arrested in Scottsdale, Arizona on Tuesday on charges of threatening and intimidating, as well as disorderly conduct with a weapon. The incident that led to the arrest occurred at a Starbucks drive-thru line in March when Suggs backed into another driver’s car. An argument ensued between the two men regarding the contact made.

After both men completed their orders, Suggs allegedly stuck his middle finger up at the other driver as he drove away. He then purportedly displayed a handgun out of the driver’s side window, threatening to kill the other man. Video footage of the incident was captured by the other driver who had an audio/video recording device attached to his car. A Scottsdale police officer identified Suggs in the footage after interacting with him previously during a court hearing for a speeding ticket in December.

Suggs’ representative released a statement claiming that he feared for his safety during the incident and was not looking for trouble. As part of his supervised release, Suggs will be required to give up any weapons he owns. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 29 for a preliminary hearing.

Suggs played in the NFL for 17 years and won two Super Bowls, was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2003 and won Defensive Player of the Year in 2011. The former first-round draft pick in 2003 out of Arizona State is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection.
