Former Texas defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat, a top draft prospect at his position, was arrested in Austin on Sunday and charged with driving while intoxicated. According to KXAN News, Sweat, who is 22 years old, was taken into custody by Austin police and was booked into Travis County jail at 2:12 p.m. on Sunday. The charge of driving while intoxicated is considered a Class B misdemeanor, and his bond was set at $3,000.
Despite the legal trouble he has faced, Sweat had an impressive college career that saw him earn Big 12 defensive player of the year honors and win the Outland Trophy for the best interior lineman in college football last season. In 2023, he recorded a career-high 45 tackles, with 18 solo tackles, eight tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, one blocked kick, and even caught a two-yard touchdown pass. Sweat started eight of the 14 games he played for the Longhorns that season.
With his talent and accomplishments on the field, Sweat is projected to be a first- or second-round draft pick during the upcoming NFL draft scheduled for April 25-27. Despite his legal troubles, teams may still be willing to take a chance on him based on his skills and potential.
