The Jaguars have recently announced the signing of Australian tight end Patrick Murtagh through the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program. Murtagh, who signed with the team on Monday, will join the roster without counting against the 90-man limit. If he doesn’t make the final 53-man roster at the end of the summer, the Jaguars have the option to carry him as a 17th practice squad player.

Before transitioning to the NFL, Murtagh played Australian Rules Football in his home country. After spending time with the Lions last offseason but having to leave due to a medical issue, he participated in a scouting combine in London and trained at IMG Academy in Florida to prepare for this opportunity.

Murtagh’s unique background in Australian Rules Football will be interesting to see how it translates to American football.
