Hines Ward Joins Arizona State as WR Coach: Former NFL Star to Join Sun Devils Coaching Staff, Report says

Arizona State has appointed former NFL All-Pro Hines Ward as their new wide receivers coach, as reported by ESPN. Ward previously coached the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL in 2023, where he achieved a 3-7 record. Prior to that, Ward worked with the wide receivers at FAU in 2021 under former head coach Willie Taggart. He also has experience as an offensive assistant with the Jets and got his start in coaching as an offensive intern with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2017. In 2019, Ward was the head of football development for the Alliance of American Football.

Hines Ward rose to fame as a versatile player at Georgia in the mid-1990s before becoming a standout receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. During his time at Georgia, Ward played wide receiver, running back, and even some quarterback, showcasing his diverse skill set. He was drafted by the Steelers in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft and went on to have a successful career, earning Pro Bowl honors, All-Pro nods, and a Super Bowl MVP award.

Ward’s new role with Arizona State will see him working under head coach Kenny Dillingham, who is in his second year with the program. Arizona State’s upcoming season will mark their first in the Big 12 conference after 45 years with the Pac-12. Ward brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the Sun Devils, and his addition to the coaching staff is sure to benefit the team as they embark on this new chapter in their athletic program
