From Dollars to Copa: The Surge in International Travel from Argentina

Growing demand for Copa América tickets in Chile and the US

Travel agencies have seen a strong demand for international trips since they began accepting the dollar bill as a payment method. The stability of the “blue” exchange rate and attractions such as shopping in Chile and the upcoming Copa América are the main factors drawing Argentine travelers abroad.

The availability of different payment options directly in dollars for international services and products has had a positive impact on purchases, particularly for destinations outside of South America. Despite high prices for air tickets and tourist packages, airlines are restricted in increasing seating capacity due to aircraft delivery problems, resulting in continued high prices for the foreseeable future.

Pablo Aperio, director of Travel Services, confirms that passengers are increasingly paying for tickets abroad in dollars or through transfers to avoid taxes and fees. This trend is expected to continue even after peak holiday seasons like summer and Easter, with inquiries already coming in for trips during the June holidays and winter vacations.

According to Andrés Deyá, president of the Argentine Federation of Travel and Tourism Business Associations (FAEVYT), around 80% of international airline ticket sales are currently issued in dollars. This trend is expected to continue as more travelers become aware of the benefits of using dollars when traveling internationally.

Overall, the travel industry in Argentina is experiencing steady demand, with both leisure travel and business trips remaining popular options for travelers. From incentives like the Cuota Simple program to upcoming events like the Copa América, travelers have a variety of options when it comes to planning their trips.
