From NASA to Tech Startups: How Technology is Impacting Our Children’s Lives – Grace Chen on Screens and Kids

Grace Chen’s Community Presentation on Technology Use and Children

On Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m., Grace Chen will present a community presentation on technology use and children at Bisbee Theater in Camden Rockport Middle School. The event is hosted by MSAD 28 and Five Town CSD. The presentation, titled “Screens and Kids,” will focus on defining the categories of device usage, understanding the impact on children, and providing ideas for managing family screen time.

Grace Chen has over 20 years of experience in the tech industry, working in Silicon Valley to develop technology products and businesses. She has worked with major tech companies such as Google, Meta, and Square, designing products for various sectors. In 2016, Chen co-founded a start-up that offered an affordable high-speed internet alternative to cable, which was later acquired by Meta in 2020. She also holds several patents for her work in developing technology products.

Chen’s career began as an engineer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and she holds a B.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. Currently residing in Camden with her husband and two children, who are both students at Camden-Rockport Elementary School, Chen is well-versed in the field of technology use and its impacts on children. Parents and teachers in the community have noticed negative behaviors and outcomes that they believe are linked to children’s screen time, making this presentation particularly timely and relevant. Although there is no one-size-fits-all solution to the issue, the presentation will discuss strategies for making decisions about device usage within families.
