From Network Technologies Manager to IT Pioneer: South Dakota’s Pat Snow Retires as Chief Technology Officer after 30 Years in State Government

Chief Technology Officer of South Dakota to Retire in 2022

After almost 30 years in state government, South Dakota Chief Technology Officer Pat Snow is retiring this year. The state’s chief information officer, Jeff Clines, announced the news on LinkedIn, stating that the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications is currently seeking a new chief technology officer to replace Snow.

Snow has been an integral part of the state government since 1996, beginning as a network technologies manager before moving on to become the state director of telecommunications and briefly serving as the state’s CIO in April 2018. Heather Perry took over as the CIO in that same year after being appointed by Gov. Kristi Noem to serve as interim CIO.

As he prepares to retire, Snow discussed South Dakota’s ongoing IT modernization efforts in a statement to StateScoop last November. He mentioned that the state has already moved about 120 services online and aims to continue releasing new digital services on a quarterly basis. He also discussed plans for an enterprise identity platform, which will provide citizens with secure access to all of the state’s digital services.

The search for a new chief technology officer is currently underway at the South Dakota Bureau of Information and Telecommunications, with Clines looking for an exceptional technology leader who can continue Snow’s legacy of dedicated service to the State of South Dakota.
