Alum advocating for mental health empowerment through sharing personal experiences

Maguire has always been passionate about helping others, especially those struggling with mental health issues. This passion led her to pursue a psychology degree and eventually become an advocate for mental health. She began volunteering with Kids Minds Matter while earning her associate’s degree at Florida SouthWestern, where she completed her studies in 2020.

After transferring to FGCU, Maguire continued her work with the organization as a behavioral health intern. In this role, she organized events aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge about mental health. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2022.

Maguire now intends to use her degree as a foundation for her advocacy work. Before college, she was unaware that being a mental health advocate was an option, but now she plans to utilize her academic knowledge and personal experiences with mental health to support others on their own journeys. Her goal is to normalize conversations surrounding mental health by sharing her lived experience with mental illness and providing education on various audiences.
