From Private Sector to Public Service: The 21 Innovators Embarking on Mission to Modernize Government Technology

GSA Introduces Newest Class of Presidential Innovation Fellows with Focus on Technology Upgrades

In 2012, the General Services Administration (GSA) launched the Presidential Innovation Fellows (PIF) program, which recruits technology and innovation leaders from the private sector and embeds them at various federal agencies. These fellows serve as strategic advisers to government leaders, helping them address national priorities.

This year’s first cohort of PIFs is made up of 21 innovators focused on technology modernization goals. They will collaborate with agency leaders to improve service delivery for the American people in their times of need. GSA Administrator Robin Carnahan expressed excitement about how these innovators will use their skills for the public good.

A second cohort launching this summer will focus on artificial intelligence in support of the Executive Order on the Safe, Secure and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence. This is the 12th PIF class overall, with over 250 fellows who have made significant contributions to public service so far. These include enhancing data sharing at the Department of Veterans Affairs and supporting technology modernization at the Department of Justice.
