Senator Ernst’s Small Business of the Week: The Bakery on Broadway of Audubon County
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) has announced The Bakery on Broadway of Audubon County as her Small Business of the Week. This is part of her plan to recognize a small business in each of Iowa’s 99 counties throughout this Congress.
Founded in 2020 by Kate Hargens, The Bakery on Broadway was started after Kate’s career as a food scientist and licensed at-home baker. Her goal was to breathe new life into downtown Audubon and create a space for the community to come together. Since fall 2023, the bakery has hosted events like the weekly “What’s Happening in Audubon” forum and the “Art on Broadway” event, allowing local artists to showcase and sell their work. Kate has been involved in various community initiatives, including serving as president of the Children’s Nest Childcare Center and fundraising for the Audubon Rec Center. Her dedication earned her the 2016 Citizen of the Year award from the Audubon Chamber of Commerce.
Kate Hargens and her team at The Bakery on Broadway have been commended by Senator Ernst for their efforts to revitalize downtown and provide a valuable community gathering space in southwest Iowa. The senator recognized their hard work and dedication to bringing new life to Audubon County through their delicious baked goods, custom cakes, and community events.
