G7 Foreign Ministers Discuss De-escalation in Middle East, Ukraine and Self-Defense Measures Amid Global Crises

G7 promises support for Israel while pledging assistance for Ukraine

The international community breathed a sigh of relief as news of an Israeli attack on Iranian territory spread. The attack, however, was targeted and far from Tehran and sensitive nuclear facilities, resulting in no casualties. This action served as a warning to the ayatollahs.

The G7 Foreign Ministerial meeting on Capri focused on de-escalation and unity of purpose among G7 countries, following the Israeli raid in Isfahan. The ministers warned Tehran against further attacks on Israel and pledged to consider sanctions or other measures if needed. The G7’s goal is to “put out the fire” in the region and work towards peace in the Middle East.

Antonio Tajani, the host of the meeting, emphasized the importance of acting with “common sense” during a dedicated session at the G7 meeting in Capri. Dmytro Kuleba, the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, also highlighted the need to accelerate air defense efforts in Ukraine during this session.

The war in Ukraine was another key topic at the G7 meeting, with a commitment to support Ukrainian defense efforts, including providing air defense systems. Italy’s presidency of the G7 prioritizes achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of self-defense and deterrence against aggression. Military aid will be discussed further at the Foreign Affairs and Defense Council meeting in Luxembourg.
