Global Spyware Attacks: Why Apple is Sending Threat Notifications to Millions of Users and What You Can Do to Protect Yourself

Warning from Apple: Users in 100 countries targeted by mercenary spy software

Apple has recently sent notifications to its users in over 92 countries about the presence of spyware on their devices. These attacks, considered one of the most advanced digital threats today, have been ongoing and global in scale, targeting journalists, activists, politicians and diplomats. According to Apple’s support page, these mercenary spy attacks are costly, sophisticated and difficult to detect. The technology company has been sending threat notifications several times a year since 2021 and has detected them in more than 150 countries.

To protect their devices from these well-funded attacks that can evolve over time, Apple recommends various steps such as enabling activation lock mode, updating software, using passwords and implementing two-factor authentication. However, they have not specified the reason for sending these notifications to users as they believe it could help attackers adapt their behavior to evade detection in the future. Despite this, it is crucial for users to take action and implement these measures to safeguard their information from potential mercenary spyware attacks.
