Governor Kelly Pushes for Medicaid Expansion to Boost Mental Health Care in Kansas: Prairie View, Inc. Tour Highlights Importance of Comprehensive Treatment for Kansans

Governor Kelly takes “Healthy Workers, Healthy Economy” Tour at Prairie View, Inc.

During her recent tour of Prairie View, Inc.’s Adult Outpatient Program, Crisis Services Department, and Behavioral Urgent Care Center in Newton, Governor Laura Kelly emphasized the importance of expanding Medicaid to improve access to comprehensive mental health treatment for Kansans.

Currently, Kansas ranks 48th in access to mental health care, according to Mental Health America. However, with Medicaid expansion, an additional 150,000 Kansans would gain access to healthcare services. This would ultimately benefit the state’s healthcare workforce and reduce costs for all individuals.

Prairie View, Inc.’s President and CEO, Marcy Johnson, shared her support for Medicaid expansion and emphasized its importance in ensuring that more Kansans have access to critical mental health services. Legislators from Harvey County and surrounding areas were encouraged to attend the tour and learn more about the benefits of Medicaid expansion.

Kansans were also provided with contact information to reach out to their local legislators and voice their support for Medicaid expansion. Photos from the event are available for media use.
