Grief and Resilience: Victoria Fluhart’s Journey to Rebuild After Tragic Tornado Loss

Waterloo woman’s plans for equine therapy business derailed by tornado as she loses beloved horse

Victoria Fluhart and her husband, Justin, faced tragedy during the recent tornado in Waterloo. The couple had recently moved to the area to start an equine business on a property owned by Brandon Johnson of Jamico Construction. Their dreams were shattered when the tornado struck, just days before they were set to host an open house for their new business.

Despite the danger, Victoria’s first instinct was to save the horses on the property, putting herself at risk in the process. In the aftermath of the storm, she found her beloved mare, Onyx, dead. Onyx had been with Victoria for 18 years and had served as a friend, partner, champion, business partner and therapist. Though devastated by the loss of her beloved horse, Victoria is determined to continue pursuing her dream of equine therapy in honor of Onyx.

Thanks to community donations and assistance with clean-up efforts, Victoria and Justin are beginning to move forward. They are grateful for the support they have received from their neighbors and hope to rebuild soon. Despite facing numerous challenges ahead of them
