Haiku-ing into Science: UNM’s Centennial Science & Engineering Library Hosts Annual Contest for Creatives

UNM Newsroom: University Libraries Announces Launch of Annual Science Haiku Contest

The Centennial Science & Engineering Library (CSEL) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) has announced the launch of their annual Science Haiku Contest in honor of National Poetry Month. This contest is open to all members of the UNM community and encourages participants to showcase their creativity and scientific inspiration through original haikus.

Focused on themes related to science and engineering, participants can submit their entries either in person at the CSEL or online at goto.unm.edu/csel-haiku-24. The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sunday, April 21, and multiple haikus can be entered to increase chances of winning.

Entries will be judged based on creativity, adherence to correct haiku form, and incorporation of scientifically accurate themes. A panel of faculty members will select the winning haiku, with the winner being announced via email. The grand prize includes a STEM-themed magnetic poetry kit to encourage further creativity and exploration of science.

Selected entries will also be featured on UNM Libraries’ social media channels to celebrate National Poetry Month. For more information and to submit a haiku, please visit goto.unm.edu/csel-haiku-24.
