Hamas Walks Away From Egypt Ceasefire Talks as Israel Escalates Offensive; Culinary and Beauty News for Mother’s Day: Top Picks in May 2022

The Hamas delegation returns to Doha from Egypt after discussing a potential ceasefire in Gaza.

The Hamas delegation, which was in Egypt for ceasefire negotiations, has left Cairo and is now headed to Qatar. There is no information yet on any progress made in the talks. Izat al Rishq, a senior official in Hamas’ political arm, reiterated that Hamas is sticking to its position in the negotiations. The group had accepted a proposal from Egypt and Qatar, which was rejected by Israel leading to a military raid on Rafah.

Al Rishq accused Israel of launching the offensive to block the efforts of the mediators and escalate aggression. He claimed that Israel is not serious about reaching an agreement and is using negotiations as a cover for invading Rafah. Despite Hamas accepting the ceasefire proposal, Israel’s war cabinet decided to continue its offensive and launched a ground incursion in Rafah, taking control of the Palestinian side of the pass.
