Hamlin Takes Home First Win of Season at Richmond Raceway, JGR Dominates Cup Series”.

Denny Hamlin stages a comeback to win in overtime at Richmond

Joey Logano’s best finish of the season was second place at Richmond Raceway, where Denny Hamlin secured the lead for an overtime restart to claim his first win of the season. Hamlin, a NASCAR veteran, has won five times at Richmond and this victory marked his 53rd career win.

Following the race, Hamlin emphasized that it was a team effort that led to his success. Martin Truex Jr., who led 228 out of 407 laps, finished fourth and expressed disappointment in the outcome. Chase Elliott rounded out the top five. Truex noted that Hamlin’s aggressive moves during the race impacted the results.

Hamlin’s win contributed to Joe Gibbs Racing’s dominance at Richmond, with the team now boasting 10 victories in the last 16 Cup races held at the track. The weekend saw a clean sweep for JGR as Chandler Smith won the Xfinity race on Saturday. The race featured a unique start with teams using wet weather tires due to rain before the event, a first in the league’s history.

Looking ahead, the series will head to Martinsville Speedway on April 7 for the next race.
