Exploring JCC’s Zoo Technology Program

Jefferson Community College’s Zoo Technology program is highly regarded and has produced graduates who have found jobs all over the country. Students interested in joining the program can now register for the fall semester or fulfill prerequisites during the summer. Through this program, students receive hands-on experience and work alongside professionals in the field such as zookeepers, veterinarians, curators, educators, and administrators.

The capstone project of this year’s program is a highlight where students will provide animal enrichment education and presentations to guests at Zoo New York’s season kickoff on May 4. The program focuses on developing technical expertise and scientific knowledge that zookeepers need to provide excellent animal care, educate the public, and participate in various programs at regional, national, and international levels.

Those looking to start the program in the fall are encouraged to register early as prerequisites in Math and English are required and can be completed during the summer session. Special session classes begin on May 28 while early full-session courses start on June 3.
