High-Power UV-C LEDs Developed by Toyoda Gosei for Enhanced Disinfection Capabilities

Toyoda Gosei Creates UV-C LED with Exceptional Light Output

Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd. is proud to announce the development of high power deep ultraviolet (UV-C) LEDs with one of the highest light outputs in the world. These LEDs are effective in disinfection as they can destroy viral and bacterial DNA structures and prevent their replication. Compared to traditional mercury lamps used for disinfection, UV-C LEDs are more environmentally friendly, mercury-free, more compact, and have a longer lifespan.

Toyoda Gosei has successfully developed UV-C LEDs that achieve a light output level of 200 milliwatts with a single chip when powered by a 350 milliampere current. The improvements in LED structure and composition have quadrupled the amount of light that can be extracted, resulting in significantly enhanced performance, including a disinfection capability three times higher than before.

These high power UV-C LEDs have the potential to become a viable alternative to mercury lamps, particularly in water purification plants and other situations where high disinfection performance is necessary. By promoting the wider use of UV-C LEDs for disinfecting water, air, and surfaces, Toyoda Gosei aims to contribute to a more hygienic and safer living environment.

Sample sales of Toyoda Gosei’s high power UV-C LEDs are set to begin internationally in April 2024, with plans to expand to other regions in the future.
