Hockey Teams and Caring Foundation Team Up to Boost Mental Health Education in North Dakota Schools

Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota Caring Foundation supports mental health prevention curriculum

In the northeastern corner of North Dakota, four school districts will soon have access to mental health services and curriculum thanks to a $24,000 fundraising effort led by three hockey teams: the Bismarck Bobcats, UND Fighting Hawks, and Fargo Force. The money raised will specifically support a program called Sources of Strength, which aims to help schools implement mental health services and curriculum that will give students the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges successfully.

Amber Blomberg, executive director of BCBSND Caring Foundation, emphasized the importance of teaching students that everyone faces difficulties and needs to learn healthy coping mechanisms. The goal of Sources of Strength is to ensure that both youths and adults have the resources they need to overcome obstacles and thrive in all aspects of life.

The collaboration between the hockey teams and the Caring Foundation has had a positive impact on mental health education in rural communities. By empowering individuals with the necessary resources, Sources of Strength aims to promote resilience and lead healthier lives.
