Honoring Italian History: Council of Ministers Approve Commemorative Stamps for Key Figures and Events

The question of who will be honored on stamps in 2024: Matteotti or Berlusconi?

The Council of Ministers has approved the issuance of commemorative stamps honoring a variety of historical and political figures. This decision was made based on a proposal from Minister of Business and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso. The program includes stamps celebrating influential figures like Marconi, Puccini, Gentile, Matteotti, Tatarella, and Berlusconi.

The stamp dedicated to Silvio Berlusconi is seen as a fitting tribute to the entrepreneur, sportsman, political leader, and statesman. Forza Italia representatives welcomed the decision, believing it fulfills the wishes of many Italians. Other stamps pay tribute to individuals such as Sante Zennaro, an elementary school teacher who showed bravery during a kidnapping incident in 1956; Alberto Manzi, known for his educational TV programs that promoted literacy; and Carlo Melograni, a prominent figure in contemporary architecture with a unique design approach.

Some of the events honored include the Villa Madama Agreements, the first law on patents, the National Bersaglieri Association, and Italy’s presidency of the G7. These stamps highlight important historical milestones and achievements in Italian history. While some figures mentioned may not be as widely recognized as others, they too played significant roles in shaping Italy’s past.
